Isle of Man Prepares to Reopen to Holidaymakers

Eighteen months ago we couldn’t have imagined our lives, livelihoods and liberties could change so drastically. Many of us would suddenly miss our families, friends and freedom. We all know what caused this – so I’ll try not to mention the ‘C’ word as I tell you about plans to relax the Isle of Man travel restrictions.

Restrictions Are Already Easing

The island closed its doors to non-residents in March 2020, but the Manx Government is gradually allowing entry to more people. We’re only taking tiny steps now but on 28th June 2021, we hope the borders will fully open to everyone.

So in what only feels like a very short time, we’ll be ready to welcome visitors back to our beautiful Island.

Apart from the absence of holidaymakers, life on the island has pretty much returned to normal already. Pubs, restaurants and cafés are open and lots of community events are planned for 2021. Sadly, this doesn’t include the TT Races and the Manx Grand Prix, but hopefully they will both return next year.

Borders Opening Fully

You might wonder how certain it is that you’ll be able to travel to the Isle of Man from 28th June. Understandably, any major development could spoil the plan, but that is the date that the government is working towards. I’ve observed a general feeling of optimism that this will be the case.

For example, this week the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, which runs the island’s ferries, launched its timetables for 2022. That means people can already start planning their future trips.

The company is giving a commitment that people who book an Isle of Man holiday can reschedule their trips free of charge. Full refunds can be claimed if the worst happens and we end up in lockdown again.
